The best thing about Dandeli is the forest and birds. A nature ethusiast can spend lot of time to explore yet unexplored parts. Wildlife is also a major attraction.

Dandeli Wildlife Sanctary, also currently known as Dandeli Anshi Tiger Reserve (DATR) is the second largest wildlife sanctaury in karnataka. Anshi National Park and the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary together have been declared as Dandeli-Anshi tiger reserve in 2007. It is spread over 1303.762 sq. km. It is part of the famous western ghat mountain range. The forests in this range are moist deciduous with semi evergreen, evergreen forests in between. The forest is very diverse, dense and serene. Bamboo and teak are very common. In the recent years bamboos have disappeared due to flowering.

Conservation of tigers is one of the major objectives of department of forests and wildlife, government of India. Camera trapping is one of the tecquniques employed in study of behavior of tigers. It is also used for tiger census. Like human beings have unique fingerprints, Tigers too have unique stripes. With the help of these photographs captured by these cameras, each of them is individually identifiable. This can also help in research on other wildlife species.
